(Ad hoc-Mitteilung)

SurgiScope, the new business division of Eckert & Ziegler, delivers its first surgical robot Berlin, 13.10.2000. jojumarie Intelligente Instrumente GmbH, a subsidiary company of Eckert und Ziegler Strahlen- und Medizintechnik AG, Berlin, has delivered the first overhead robot for the treatment of brain tumors. The machine was installed in the children's Hôpital Necker in Paris on Wednesday and will probably go into operation in November. The robot costs approximately DM 1.5 million and is a product from the SurgiScope business unit, which jojumarie GmbH acquired in September from the American company Medtronic Surgical Navigation Technologies Inc. There is now a total 36 SurgiScopes installed in leading neurosurgical clinics in Europe, Asia, and America. "The installation confirms that neurosurgeons continue to be interested in innovative solutions for the treatment of tumors. Our decision to venture into this business division has proved to be right. In addition to the SurgiScope we will be presenting a second robotics platform at the MEDICA, the exhibition of medical technology to be held in November, that has been developed by ourselves to treat prostate cancer", so the general manager of jojumarie Prof. Dr. Tim Lueth. "This platform of diagnostics and positioning units ideally complements the treatment of prostate carcinomas with miniaturized sources of radiation. We hope that these intelligent systems for the minimally invasive and low-price treatment of cancer with the smallest and weakest possible radioactive sources will also gain the same level of acceptance that they have already achieved in the United States". jojumarie Intelligente Instrumente GmbH is a leading developer and manufacturer of navigated positioning and guidance instruments and a joint venture partner of Professors Tim Lueth and Jürgen Bier and Eckert & Ziegler Strahlen- und Medizintechnik AG. Professor Dr. Lueth and Professor Dr. Dr. Bier established the specialist laboratory for Navigation and Robotics at the Berlin Charité Hospital. Eckert & Ziegler AG and its subsidiary companies are active in the field of innovative solutions for the treatment of cancer and cardiac illnesses.
