Eckert & Ziegler Takes over Radiopharmaceutical Production for the Charité

Berlin, 30.01.2006. The Berlin Charité university hospital and Eckert & Ziegler AG (ISIN DE0005659700) will expand their existing joint efforts in the field of nuclear medicine to also work closely together in producing short-lived radiopharmaceutical products. The Berlin-based isotope specialist will operate the cyclotron at the Charité site in Schumannstraße as of February 1, forming a Berlin cyclotron association together with its own site in the district of Adlershof. A five-year contract to this effect was signed on last Friday by the executive officers of the Charité and the Eckert & Ziegler subsidiary EURO-PET Berlin Zyklotron GmbH.

This agreement will save millions of euros in operating costs for the Charité while retaining use of the facility's products. For its part, Eckert & Ziegler can use the facility to increase its production capacities while gaining an expert development site for innovative radiopharmaceutical products. To deepen cooperative efforts, the agreement also stipulates that university staff can use the cyclotron for research purposes and that Eckert & Ziegler will now be the exclusive supplier of a series of innovative radiopharmaceutical products to the Charité.

"This contract is an outstanding example of the mutual increase in efficiency that results from cooperation between university clinics and specialized companies," noted Dr. Andreas Hey, the managing director of EURO-PET Berlin Zyklotron GmbH. "The Charité benefits in terms of business, treatment, and research, while Eckert & Ziegler AG gains critical mass and enhances this medical site as a high-powered supplier of specialty products in the field of nuclear medicine. We are pleased with this decision by the Charité executive board and look forward to working together with them."
