Eckert & Ziegler awards prizes to young nuclear medicine researchers

Berlin, October 21, 2014. This year’s Eckert & Ziegler Abstract Award went to five nuclear medicine specialists from Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Canada at the congress of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) in Gothenburg. The prizes were awarded for research work in the fields of cancer diagnostics and therapy.
The competition, which is run by Eckert & Ziegler AG in cooperation with the EANM and awards prizes of €1,000 each, was held for the seventh time.

  • A jury of seven EANM members chose the following five laureates from a total of 560 entries:
  • L. Kurch, Germany: Non-FDG-avid areas inside a tumour mass in Paediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma (PHL) patients - A new risk factor?
  • E. Lopci, Italy: Quantitative analyses at Baseline and Interim PET evaluation for response assessment and outcome definition in patients with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM)
  • B. Mills, United Kingdom: Validation and applications for SNAP-tag imaging of bacterial infection
  • K.P. Willowson, Australia: The QUEST Study: Correlating metabolic response with 90Y PET dosimetry for the treatment of metastatic liver cancer with radioembolisation
  • S. Yook, Canada: A comparison of EGFR-targeted and non-targeted 177Lu-labeled gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for localized radiation treatment of breast cancer xenografts in athymic mice

“Radiodiagnostics play a key role in personalized medicine, which allows patients to receive customized therapy thanks to advance diagnosis. A special test during diagnosis makes it possible to determine before treatment whether a drug is likely to have the desired effect on a patient. With our Abstract Award, we hope to make a contribution to researching and expanding the spectrum of indications for personalized diagnosis and therapy,” explained Dr. André Heß, Member of the Executive Board of Eckert & Ziegler AG and Head of the Radiopharma Segment.
The purpose of the Eckert & Ziegler Abstract Award is to help young research scientists present their work on medical imaging to a wide audience.
