Berlin‘s Governing Mayor, Klaus Wowereit, lays the Foundation Stone for the new Corporate Head Office of Eckert & Ziegler AG

Berlin, 25.05.2011. The Berlin corporation Eckert & Ziegler AG, specialists in isotope-related applications in the fields of medicine, science and industry (ISIN DE0005659700), is building a new corporate head office on the Berlin-Buch Campus. Today’s symbolic laying of the foundation stone, also attended by the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, was the starting signal for this new construction with an investment volume of around 9 million EUR. A new radioisotope development center, production labs and an incubator are to be incorporated by mid-2012 into this multi-functional building, providing work for around 200 staff.

„This additional area of 5,000 m² is required to handle our rapid development and growth in terms of turnover and staff in recent years and also provides potential for further expansion in the field of medical technology and radio-pharmacy. Our plans reflect our commitment to Berlin and its potential to develop into an important location for life sciences“, explained Dr. Andreas Eckert, CEO of Eckert & Ziegler AG.

The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Wowereit, said:  „An important motor for economic growth in the region of Berlin and Brandenburg is a highly dynamic, innovative health industry. Our aim is to be the leading health industry region in Germany. And to ensure our objective is fulfilled, we have set a clear course. Here at the Campus in Buch, for example, you can clearly see that it was right to support the health industry. Eckert & Ziegler is a genuine Berlin success story: the company has highly specialized products on the market and has developed into a global company with a dozen locations spread across Europe, America and Asia. And this foundation stone for the new corporate head office is a symbol of this success. We are proud of this development and appreciate your clear commitment to our city of Berlin.“

Prof. Walter Rosenthal, Supervisory Board Chairman of BBB Management GmbH Campus Berlin-Buch and Board Director of the Foundation of the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) said: „Around 2,200 people work at the Berlin-Buch Campus, with its research institutes, clinical facilities and companies. Along with Heidelberg and Munich, it is one of the largest centers of its kind in Germany. The expansion of Eckert & Ziegler AG on the campus reflects the recent increase in demand for land. „Swift planning development of land around the campus and improved traffic connections to Buch are therefore of immense importance“, he stressed.

The Eckert & Ziegler Group, listed on the stock exchange, generates a turnover of around 111 million EUR and employs 560 staff. It is one of the world’s largest suppliers of isotope-related components for radiotherapy and nuclear medicine.
