Eckert & Ziegler AG Appoints New Board Member. Solid Sales Growth in First Quarter.

(Ad hoc press release)

Berlin, 04 May 2001. In order to bolster the Medical Radioactive Sealed Sources division and to ensure steady growth, the Eckert & Ziegler AG Supervisory Board today named medical physicist Dr. Edgar Löffler (48) a member of the Board of Directors effective 7 May 2001. In recent years this native-born Swabian headed strategic planning for the Dutch Nucletron B.V., the world market leader for cancer-radiation equipment (afterloaders). He is also the inventor of numerous innovations in the contact-therapy field. At Nucletron B.V. Dr. Löffler was essential for the diversion into cardiovascular brachytherapy and permanent implants. These segments are also two of Eckert & Ziegler AG's core markets. "We are delighted to have an experienced industry expert like Dr. Löffler, who will support Eckert & Ziegler AG as it expands its front-runner position in the field of low-radiation cardiac and cancer treatments", commented Supervisory Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Maennig. "With this appointment, we will be accelerating the development of new business fields and invigorating growth. Dr. Löffler will be bringing the company invaluable experience in managing sales organizations and the implementation of long-term marketing strategies." According to preliminary calculations, the Berlin-based company boosted sales during first quarter 2001 to some EUR 7.0 million, or 65% more than the prior-year period. Eckert & Ziegler expects sales of almost EUR 30 million for 2001.
