Measurement and Analysis
At the site Braunschweig Eckert & Ziegler Nuclitec GmbH (EZN) operates its own nuclear radiation measurement laboratory, which is accredited by the Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS). The DAkkS is the national accreditation body of the Federal Republic of Germany.
This enables the EZN measurement laboratory to issue DAkkS calibration certificates which are internationally recognized and contain detailed information on measurement uncertainties and traceability of measurements in accordance with the European co-operation for Accreditation Multilateral Agreement (EA MLA).
Within the DAkkS accreditation the measurement laboratory performs the following calibration services:
- Calibration of reference sources manufactured at EZN (Catalogue Products)
- Calibration of customized reference sources in different geometries and compositions. Such sources are developed in cooperation with our engineering department.
- Calibration of reference solutions in terms of radioactivity or radioactive concentration
- Calibrations can be performed for single nuclides or mixed nuclide sources or solutions.
- Re-calibration of working/reference measurement standards manufactured at EZN.
If traceable results are not required or feasible, the measurement laboratory offers flexible factory calibrations. Also, for these calibrations, EZN guarantees high quality measurements in accordance with the standardized, documented laboratory processes and expert calculations of calibration uncertainties.
In addition, we offer measurements for environmental analysis and waste conditioning purposes, such as:
- Qualitative and quantitative characterization of samples for release of radioactive waste
- Characterization of environmental monitoring samples by means of gamma spectroscopy and liquid scintillation counter
All measurement systems used in our laboratory are calibrated using radioactivity standards which are fully traceable to radioactivity standards of the National Laboratories such as the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt PTB (D), the National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST (USA) and the National Physics Laboratory NPL (GB). Also, our measurement laboratory is subject to continuous surveillance audits from the accreditation bodies.
